The route at a glance

This route combines the capital with the sunniest part of France. You start in Paris, take the high-speed train south to Avignon, explore Provence, and finish on the Côte d'Azur. Fly into Paris and home from Nice, which has direct flights to many European cities.

  • Day 1–3: Paris
  • Day 4–5: Avignon and Provence
  • Day 6–7: Nice and the Riviera

Transport

Paris to Avignon takes about two hours and 40 minutes by TGV. Avignon to Nice takes about three to four hours by train, or you can drive along the coast. A hire car for the Provence days is strongly recommended, because buses to the villages are infrequent. Pick it up at Avignon TGV station and return it in Nice.
